End of Summer Party Tips

End of Summer Party Tips
As seen on Afternoon Live

End -of -summer- party - tips

Ok, I KNOW the photos aren't the best and all perfect looking.  That's what happens when you take the pics in the back prep area of a t.v. station.  That's right, this party set up was featured on Afternoon Live.  You should totally go watch.  I give some serious end of summer party tips you'll want to snag.

So this pic is totally washed out.  BUT,  what I want to point out here is the paper lanterns.  They're great for summer parties.  They are inexpensive and light and perfect for hanging from tree's or  pergolas. Many come with lights that are battery operated so you can extend the party after the sun has gone down.

End of summer candy table
Bright candies can add some fun to your end of summer parties.   Be sure the candy sticks with the theme of your party.  I chose a tropical themed end of summer party so I went with bright tropical colourful candy.   If it's going to be a hot day when you host your party be sure to set up the candy table indoors.  Candy and hot sun don't mix.  If you set up your candy bar outdoors on a hot day you'll have a big sticky mess.

End of summer party tips candy bar
When setting up a candy bar be sure to have a variety on hand. Pick a variety of colours, flavors and textures.  Cupcakes are always good to have on your dessert table.   If you pick up store bought ones dress them up with candy sprinkles and picks matching your theme.

It's easy to add handmade details to your party like this flamingo banner I created.  Look for a template of something that matches your theme, trace it out onto card stock and attach to ribbon or clear line with tape.  No one is going to see the back and tape is quick and easy. I added a little glitter to the flamingo beak for some fun.

Tropical party photo booth props
No summer party is complete without some fun photo booth props that match your theme.  Everyone loves to take fun photo's that will remind them of all the summer fun with friends when winter hits and it's too cold or wet to host a party outdoors.

Tropical party photo booth props
Photo props don't have to be expensive.  Pick up some fun glasses at dollar shops and party them up by adding glitter.

August Recap

August Recap- Enjoying Summer

Was anyone else's August busy?  When I looked back at my August it was packed full of fun.  No wonder the month just flew!

I kicked off August with the re-opening of my etsy shop.   I closed it for the month of July so I could do a little revamping of the shop, glittering up a lot of new items and creating a lot of tulle poms in a variety of colours. I love creating items for peoples parties.

The first weekend in August saw a visit from family who live out of state. It was great to spend time with family and celebrate my cousins birthday.   I feel so blessed to have a large family.  There was 16 of us at dinner.  That's just my parent's, aunts and uncles and cousins.

The birthday dinner was followed by a weekend of goal setting with three local bloggers.  This was a BIG goal setting session.  We weren't talking about how we were going to grow our social media numbers.  We were talking the BIG goals that would take our businesses farther.  Of course I had to set up a little party table.  We had no idea after this session that we'd end up collaborating on a workshop together.  More to come on that later.

The next week was the Portland Street of Dreams.  I love touring these houses with an eye on the party spaces.  I wouldn't want a house as big as the ones at Street of Dreams but I do get ideas for how to improve our little house. This year we're re-doing the front yard. It needs it bad.  My man says it's like four-wheeling with the lawn mower.  There's so much moss and lumpiness and just all around too much grass.

An exciting event in August was the solar eclipse.   Of course I had to throw a little celebration.  It's not every year that the solar eclipse happens.  What an exciting event.  My man wasn't excited about it and just worked right through it.  I of course stopped what I was doing and watched the eclipse happen with a couple of friends. They say opposites attract right 😉

At the end of the month I had a great phone chat with Christa Graham Wedding & Events.  I met her in a Facebook group and me being the extrovert I am, as soon as I found out she was a wedding planner I reached out and said, hey, we should chat sometime.  We ended up having a great conversation and bounced a lot of ideas off each other.  Stay tuned for those ideas to come to life later this year and into the next.

Phew! August was a busy fun filled month.  How was your August?

Summer Wine Tasting

Summer Wine Tasting

This summer the Portland Blogger and Creatives group got together for a little wine tasting at Stoller Winery. Summer is a great time for wine tasting with friends.  Especially if you rent a limo or other car service so everyone can enjoy tasting.

Stoller Vineyard in Oregon

I just love the wide open spaces around wineries as you drive up to them.  This lone white farm house caught my eye and as I stopped to capture the shot I day dreamed about living on acreage. But than I thought about how many times a week I make craft store runs. 😜

One of the things I really like about Stoller is that they kept Oak trees among their vines.  White oak's to be exact.  White oak numbers have decreased dramatically and Stoller is helping to preserve the species.  Plus just look at that view! I like the variation the oaks and pine trees bring to the view of the vineyard. It's such a relaxing view.

Not only is Stoller helping preserve white oaks, their tasting room is solar. Way to go Stoller. Those Adirondack chairs were calling my name but I had to meet up with the rest of the blogger group. Plus I would have FRIED in minutes under the hot summer sun.

Enjoying the first tasting in our flight.  This was a chardonnay. Normally I do not like chardonnays. I'm all about the reds.  But this one was surprisingly good. Our sommelier informed us that this chardonnay was from a stainless steel barrel not an oak barrel.  That must be why I like it.  Along with the flight we were also served a charcuterie board.

Now this is my kind of wine, red. Do you prefer white or red?  Let me know in the comments.

As the event wined down and we all started to head out I caught Mt. Hood in the distance as I made my way to my car.

Of course Mt. Hood was so much clearer in person.  I can never capture it in a photo the way it looks in person.

Have you enjoyed any outings with friends this summer?  I'd love to hear about it in the comments below.

4th of July Disco Pool Party

Happy 4th of July

**Oriental Trading was awesome and sent me product in exchange for styling a party**

This 4th of July add a little disco to your party.  Ok, so maybe you're thinking, where's the disco?  Maybe you're thinking, all I see is patriotic and sparkle.  That sequined lantern from Oriental Trading made me think disco when I saw it.  All that's missing is the music of  the Bee Gees and Donna Summer playing.

Fill up the kiddie pool, set out some chairs for relaxing and don't forget the sunscreen.  You don't want your guests going home burnt. That's no fun. Trust me, I know. I'm a red head.

Kids love the sparkle too.

Fruit never lasts at my summer parties.   Stop at your local farmers market and pick up what's in season.  Your guests will love the taste of freshness. Before they enjoy a cookie of course.

Don't forget the party favors.  Bubbles, glowing rings and temporary tattoos are all inexpensive and fun party favors.

Oh you know I had to have cookies and cupcakes at my party. It's just not a party without them.  Maybe you have A/C in your house. I don't. So I picked up store bought cupcakes and cookies. I wasn't about to turn on my oven or stay up till midnight when the house cooled down to bake.  I added my tulle poms to dress up the cupcakes and I don't know many people who can resist Loft House Cookies.

Explore Summer with Evite

Disclosure-I'm part of the Evite Influencer Program and have been compensated for this post.  All opinions and photo's, except the invitation photo are my own.

When Evite  asked me what I have planned this summer I knew just what I wanted to share.  My husband and I always take the week of 4th of July off and enjoy exploring around our city of Portland.  While a lot of people go out of town to enjoy fireworks on the 4th we stay home and watch the neighbors show down the street.  It's pretty impressive and goes almost all night.

Evite has a lot of great summer invitations.

This 4th of July invitation will tell your friends they're in for a fun evening celebrating the holiday.

Set out the lawn chairs and make them all cozy with pillows.  You don't have to spend a lot of money on pillows.  I picked this one up at Target's Dollar Spot.  We love spending summers in our backyard.

Fire up the grill on the 4th of July and make it less stressful.  When your friends ask what can they bring, take them up on the offer.  Have your friends bring salads, drinks, chips, dips etc.

Want a cookie?  I love Loft House cookies.  They are so soft and it's hard to eat just one.  I could bake cookies myself and there's even a Loft House cookie recipe but summer is suppose to be about lazy party fun.  Plus who wants to bake on a hot summer day. So pick up those cookies at the store, enjoy more time with friends and keep that oven off.

Dress up the dessert table with holiday linens.  My secret when it comes to linens?  Fabric.  I love fabric but can't sew so when I see a fabric I love I buy enough to fit my table.
