Mardi Gras Round Up 

Mardi Gras is fun to celebrate no matter where you live.   I've never experienced Mardi Gras in New Orleans but it's on the bucket list. 

Let's explore  a variety of ideas to inspire your Mardi Gras party. 

I love a well set table.  Even though I never set our table because we rarely eat at it.  Celebrations at Home definitely knows how to set a beautiful table. I could take some tips from her. Get inspired with table setting ideas and menu.

Is it really a party without cookies? I don't think so.  The Partiologist  shows us an easy fun way to make cookies. These would be a great party favor. 

I had to share one of my Mardi Gras parties with you for inspiration.  This was the first party that I ever got featured in a magazine.  This one appeared in Carousel Magazine and on Kara's Party Ideas.   I love how this party turned out. It's so elegant.

Emojinal Mardi Gras Dessert Table 

Welcome back to the second half of the Emojinal Mardi Gras party. Missed the first half? See it here. 

I had too much fun with this party mixing emoji's and Mardi Gras.  When I first had this idea I honestly wasn't sure how the mix of the two were going to really look. But I'm loving it. 

The inspiration for this party came from emoji Mardi Gras beads I saw on the Mardi Gras Outlets Facebook page.  Those beads are the ones around the cake stand, below the cupcakes in this pic.  I saw them and inspiration struck.  I contacted Bella Grey Designs, showed her a pic of the emoji beads and asked if she could create some printables for the party.  

For the cupcakes I asked Fondant Fantasy  to create some Mardi Gras emoji toppers.  I sent her the image of the beads and the printables and she nailed the look.  Instead of cupcake wrappers I took tissue paper and cut them to make them fringy. Then I just taped the ends together so it would stay around the cupcake.  I made the cupcake wrappers this way to match the float.

I spotted these M & M emoji candies during Valentine's at Target and I HAD to have them.  I knew I was going to be creating this emojinal Mardi Gras party and that these M  & M's would be gone out of the store right after Valentine's so I bought them as soon as I saw them.

Mini Coca-Cola bottles are ready to party it up Mardi Gras style.  I again took tissue paper and fringed it up to match the cupcake wrappers and parade float.  I then added the emoji Mardi Gras beads which were the inspiration for this party and added yellow stripped straws.

I love to nestle my cookies in a bed of something. Licorice sticks, sprinkles, sanding sugar or CandyFetti.  This emoji mix from Sweets Indeed was perfect for this party.  The colour just pops under the cookies and the mix comes with little sugar emoji faces.

Every time I order cookies from Creating Awesomenessity  I squeal with delight. She nails it every.single. time.  These cookies just make me smile.

Mardi Gras float coming through.  I wanted a unique way to display the emoji Mardi Gras cookies.  I wanted to show them having fun.  Mardi Gras is known for their parade floats so I created one and placed the cookies inside.

To create the float you'll need:

• Shoe box
• Tissue paper
• Double stick tape
• Beads
• Cookies 

I cut tissue paper into strips that would cover the shoe box.  I fringed the tissue paper stripes with scissors, leaving a little bit at the top unfringed. Then I just added double stick tape to the back of the tissue paper where it was unfringed and stuck it to the box. Once I had the whole box covered with fringed tissue paper, I wadded up a couple sheets and stuffed them inside the shoe box. I draped the beads around the shoe box and gently placed the cookies on top the wadded up tissue paper I had placed inside the shoe box.

You didn't think I forgot the Hurricane's did you? It's just not Mardi Gras without them. Because I like Hurricane's I already had the glasses on the hand.  I wrapped them with more Mardi Gras beads and added an emoji sticker I found at Michael's.

Let the Good Times Roll at this emojinal Mardi Gras party!  When I told Bella Grey Designs  about my emoji Mardi Gras party idea she loved it and was excited to create this invitation for me. No way could my guests say no to this invitation. 

Hey hey Fizzy Friends, welcome to my emojinal Mardi Gras party! I'm so glad you could make it. Come on in and get ready to have some fun. 

So what sparked this idea of combining Mardi Gras and emoji's?  I saw emoji Mardi Gras beads on Mardi Gras Outlet  and the party just POPPED into my head. I'm loving the look!  Don't you?

VIP Swag Bag

Shortly after buying my BASH ticket there was a post letting us know if anyone wanted to contribute to the VIP Swag bags to let the admins know.  Lets just say my interest was piqued. But what to make?   I didn't want to put my tulle poms in the bag because I was putting those on the mini swag bags I was handing out as part of my business cards.  And these VIP bags were going to the party girls who's work I admired and had been following for years!  After much consideration I decided to make masks. The theme for BASH was a travel one and the masks would fit in perfectly. A little taste of travelling to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. 

I set about creating 50+ different masks. I ordered the masks from Mardi Gras outlet , used various crafting supplies I had on hand and of course, hit the sales.  Every surface in my living room and dining room were covered in masks. My man is simply wonderful when I go all craft crazy and take over the house with my projects.  He's become accustomed to finding glitter everywhere, I do mean, everywhere, feathers floating around and rarely being able to actually eat at the dining table. 

I had so much fun trying to come up with 50+ different designs. I wanted to make sure no one saw the same one when they posted them all over social media. I also wanted to show case how I could create a mask for just about any party theme they had in mind. You know, so when a party planner, stylist, blogger needed a mask for their party, they'd know who to contact. (Insert subtle hint)  

 Package presentation is everything in the party world and I knew exactly what products I wanted to use. The packaging couldn't be too big because the masks were going in the VIP bags along with a lot of other products. I contacted Nashville Wraps  to see if they would be willing to partner with me. I love their products and knew a lot of the party people did too. Many of the party people attending the BASH Conference also sell items and I wanted to expose them to the wonderful products of Nashville Wraps. I used the gold ribbon on many of the masks and wrapped the masks in  gold polka dot tissue paper because it resembles confetti which is part of my logo.  

After wrapping the masks in the tissue paper and adding my business card I tucked the masks into plastic bags and packed them up to ship off to Arizona.

Happy Mardi Gras!

Mardi Gras kicked off on Fat Tuesday, March 4, 2014. I was too busy on the weekend before and after Mardi Gras to throw a party, so the weekend before St. Patrick's Day I threw a mini Mardi Gras party with friends.  To see the photo's from the party go to my Facebook page.



I've always wanted to make a King Cake but thought it would be way too much work. When I saw this box mix in Cost Plus World Market I decided to give it a try. 

The box comes with all you need. Cake mix, Yeast, Praline filling, glaze, sprinkles and a baby!

The box suggested you turn on the oven for 2 minutes then turn it off and set the dough in a bowl on top of the oven.  This is to let it rise. However mine was not doubling in size like it should have. It rose but not double.

When I thought it had rose enough I rolled it out. The smell of yeasty bread filled my kitchen. I love the smell of yeasty bread. It takes me back to the days when my grandma would make bread.

After rolling out the dough, you slather on the praline filling, jelly roll it up and form a circle. Looks like one side is a little smaller then the other. Hope it cooks up ok.

I'd say it baked up pretty nice. Hope it tastes as good as it looks and smells.

All decorated and ready to eat.  It turned out really good. There was a small section that was a little doughy and didn't cook as well as it should have. I think it was because it didn't double in size. My friends didn't mind. We just cut that little section out and ate the rest.

I was very pleased with how easy this box mix was to make. My friends and I enjoyed it and it made my house smell so good. I would buy this mix again.

Woo Hoo!! Wednesday

Laissez les bon temps rouller

A co-worker I use to work with is headed for a great adventure. She got a job in Barrows, Alaska ! Woo Hoo!! Before she leaves Oregon  she wanted a luncheon with some of her co-workers.  Being Mardi Gras and me being a Party Diva, I had to Fizzy up the Bon Voyage luncheon.  

Since it was at work I can't go ALL out like I'd like too.  I have to make due with the room layout and be able to decorate on a 15 minute break. I Fizzy'd up the white board with Mardi Gras essentials. Beads, coins, noise makers and the masks I made last year. (click the link for a how-to). 

Better look at the masks I made. I decorated the whole table with masks, noise makers, beads, coins and my signature...confetti! 

You know I had to have cupcakes. Chocolate cream filled with the Mardi Gras colours represented in sprinkles. No cupcake survived. 

I look forward to hearing about my friends adventures. It was - 15 in Barrows today by the way, brrrr. 

I'm glad I was able to throw a mini party for her before she left.  She may not get any parties in Barrows like this. After all, cake mix is $4.79 and a can of frosting $4.45. You better savor every bite of those cupcakes if you make any. Ha ha
