40th birthday

Saturday night I met some girlfriends to celebrate a 40th and a 38th birthday.  For my friend that turned 40 I really wanted to throw a BIG party for her. After all, 40 is a big one and should be celebrated BIG! But she's more of a get some girlfriends together, go out to a trendy bar and get some good drinks kind of gal.  So that's just what we did.

We went to Trader Vics. Here's what their web site says about their bar:

Trader Vic’s Portland!

The world’s premier Polynesian paradise is back in town, and better than ever. With a legendary lineup of exotic handcrafted cocktails, delectable tidbits and imaginative entrĂ©es, Trader Vic’s is a tropical refuge in the heart of the Pearl District.
Trader Vic’s Portland showcases an extensive collection of original Polynesian pop art alongside authentic tribal masks, tiki carvings, tapa cloth, woven-grass wall coverings and many other indigenous South Seas artifacts. Whether you’re in the mood for dinner or just drinks, appetizers and good times, Trader Vic’s is the place to be. Join us.

Of course we all enjoyed a mai tai, after all, this is Trader Vics.

I had every intention of making my friend her favorite cupcakes but sometimes life gets in the way. I still have her gift so I'll be making those cupcakes and bringing them to her along with her gift soon.  What is her favorite cupcake?  Red Velvet!  This one is from Annie's Eats . I've never made them from scratch before. I'll give it a go but have a boxed mix on hand...just in case.

My friend kicked off 2012 the Fizzy Party way. Inspiring a get together among friends :)
Just wish I would have made those cupcakes. Eh, guess another mini party is in order ;)
