Tiki Party left-over's

Seems like there's always left-over's from a party.  No matter how hard you try not to have any, you always do. I had Pina Colada cupcakes left over from the Tiki party on Saturday. Today I treated my co-workers to them.  Woo Hoo!!! Success, I can bake from scratch :) So many wonderful compliments today.
"Absolutely a winner" , "Yummmy!!!", "Very tasty"

Tiki III

Gorgeous day for Tiki III. This party is normally held in July around our anniversary but Oregon is getting a very late summer so we hosted in August.  This year all the regulars couldn't make it but we got to share the tiki with some new faces and hope to see them back again next year. Enjoy the party! May it inspire you to host a tiki/Hawaiian fizzy party.
I noticed several women driving down our street, slow down and point the wreath out to their passenger :) So easy to make too.
Every one gets a lei, just like when you visit the beautiful islands of Hawaii.  On the invitation I always ask the guests to dress Hawaiian and just about everyone does. Its fun and makes for great party pictures.

The annual tiki party is always held outdoors. The paper lanterns are from our wedding :) and add a great burst of color.
There we are :), on our wedding day. We love the beach and our wedding was held in Cannon Beach, Oregon on a perfect July day.
Hee hee, maybe next year I should be like all the fancy party blogs and drape some Hawaiian print fabric to cover the fireplace. It would probably spruce it up, dontcha think?

I know what you're thinking, what do Peeps have to do with tiki or Hawaiian. I LOVE Peeps and since our annual tiki party is sort of a celebration of our anniversary they make an appearance.  At our wedding we had a candy bar with the Peeps set up like this. Peeps are candy, I love Peeps...

I always have a little bucket of fun for the kids who come.  We had this at our wedding too.  I fill it with fun flamingo glasses, hula skirts, temporary tattoos (adults even like these), beads, Hawaiian rubber duckies (big hit at the 1st annual tiki party), Frisbee's and beach balls.
Bubbles are always fun too and Oriental Trading company is a great place to find inexpensive party goods in your theme. A really good friend of mine got me Hello Kitty just for fun one year so you know I had to put her out.

My friends get disappointed if I don't bust out the confetti :) it's kind of my signature.
Gotta have Spam at a Hawaiianish party.  Big hit. ooh, look, more confetti :)

When you don't have enough tables, use your ironing board.

I made these from scratch. I never bake from scratch. They turned out really good, Woo Hoo!! The frosting didn't look the same as the picture in the book but they tasted good and that's all that matters right?...

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed the party.  Hosting your own Hawaiian/Tiki party? I'd love to hear about it. Email me, Woo Hoo!!!

Tiki III Sneak Peek

Tiki III is this Saturday. My boss is moving her son to college today so I took the opportunity to stay home and party prep.  Feels nice to have a whole day to prep instead of doing it bit by bit after work.  Fireplace mantle is Tiki'd out, Woo Hoo!!  The tiki masks and flowers were from our wedding in 2008. I've gotten A LOT of use out of them.  Great party purchase.  Yep, that's us on our wedding day :) We LOVE LOVE LOVE the beach so of course we HAD to get married there :)
This is the 3rd year we've had this party and I've never served one of the traditional Hawaiian foods...Spam! So this year I'm bustin it out. I know my dad will love it, lets see if other guests are adventurous and try it or if it will go untouched.

  • Barbecued Spam Kabobs

  • 12 (6 inch) wooden skewers, soaked in water for 10 minutes

  • 1 can Spam Classic, cut into 36 pieces

  • 1 can (30 oz) pineapple chunks, drained

  • 1/3 cup barbecue sauce

  • Thread cubes of Spam and pineapple alternately on skewers. Grill over hot coals or broil, turning often, until lightly browned and warmed through, about 5 minutes. (Can also be browned in skillet.) Just before serving, brush kabobs with favorite barbecue sauce.

    Woo Hoo!! Wednesday's

These would be adorable for a kids party.  Look at those faces, so cute. You'd need 6-8 or more I'm thinking. $40 ec at Fred Meyer
I'm kind of liking gnomes right now.I have yet to see Gnomeo and Juliet, I know, I know.  I don't have kids and unless the movie is action my man is not interested.  Plus I know once I watch the movie I'm going to want to plan a party :)  $25 each at Fred Meyer.

    Happy 1st birthday dog party

I just attended my first dog party this weekend.  I'm a cat person myself but my friend knows I love parties and I was more then happy to help her out. So glad she invited me, the dogless, because it was so cute AND when I went to the second party of the evening, a 40th birthday party, conversation turned to the party I just came from. Everyone loved the idea and dog parties may be springing up all over the Portland metro area now. Woo Hoo!! Lots of great photo's to share, so grab some lemonade, flip through the photo's and start planning your own dog party :)

The party atmosphere started at the front porch with this adorable banner made by the TheMistressT of BubbleOffPlumb Inc., oh and the sound of VERY excited dogs barking because their guests had arrived.

The great thing about a dog party is, you don't have to decorate much. The dogs would just destroy all your hard work anyway. Of course you want to decorate a little, the crepe paper and balloons always says "PARTY!!!"
The tables were accented with the parties colors and gingham theme.
The birthday dog enjoying her party.
Hot dogs were served for the people in keeping with the doggie theme :) along with potato salad and a watermelon salad.
A kiddie pool is a great idea for a dog's party on a hot summer day.
Birthday girl Betty makes a wish with a cupcake made just for her. A carrot for the candle, so cute.
All the dogs got to have beef-jerky mini pupcakes which they devored and begged for more.
Apple Brown Betty cupcakes for the people. Delish. Apples inside the cupcakes and brown sugar icing.
Gift bags for the kids included a puppet, make-your-own dog from JoAnn's dollar bins, crayons and google eyes to decorate the dogs.  TheMistressT made the gift bags out of oil cloth.
The bone case holding the bone shaped crayons is soo cute! The kids loved it.
Of course the dogs got their own party favors too. Bags made by TheMistressT, Dollar store chew toy, homemade Kitty Roca and a Collar Cozie.
Betty and her sister Olive with their Collar Cozies on.  TheMistressT of BubbleOffPlumb Inc sells these on her Etsy site. You can change the look of your dogs collar so their always stylin :)
Betty's guest sporting his collar cozie party favor.
Loved the Kitty Roca favors. The dogs loved them too and it looks like their favorite "treat" ha ha. Made with ingredients people could even eat. Although I'm told dogs find them tastier.
Betty didn't need any gifts and the invitation asked that you bring pet supplies that would be donated to the shelter where Betty was adopted from.  I found a bag with one of Betty's party colors and filled it with much needed supplies.

What a great dog party.  I hope that it inspires you to have a party for your dog. If you do, send me the photo's and I'll share it on Fizzy Party!

For more detailed information on the party from the hostess TheMistressT, wag on over to here.

    Vanishing Tiki punch recipe

This punch didn't last long. Note to self for Tiki III make 2 batches.

                                                                   Easy Hawaiian Punch
    Serves 15-20
    1.5 Quarts Orange Juice
    1 Quart Pineapple Juice
    1 Liter Lemon-Lime Soda
    4 oz (shots) Grenadine
    Sliced fruit of your choice

Combine the liquid ingredients in large bowl, garnish with sliced fruit and chill with ice or the refrigerator. Adults can easily add a Little " punch" to this recipe.  Is that why it was disappearing so fast ;)

Enjoy it at your next party and watch it disappear.
This recipe was found off of the site Hawaiinluaparty.com which appears to be no longer active.

These Spider-Man comic book cookies look amazing. But I know if I was to make these, they wouldn't look like this. Williams Sonoma $19.95

As a party thrower, of course I'm planning my Halloween party already. However, we are just now getting summer here in Oregon so I'm not really ready for Halloween yet. Doesn't mean I'm not snooping around for great Halloween goodies. Like this skeleton hand drink dispenser from Pottery Barn, $69.00 for the stand and $79.00 for the glass dispenser.

If you happen to pick up any of these fun party items be sure to tell me about :)
